PROFILE
Dusty is currently on the road with Granger Smith and Earl Dibbles Jr.

Dusty began playing drums at the age of 2; so early that he doesn't remember ever not playing. He played constantly throughout his childhood in Lorena, Texas and started getting into bands like Nirvana, Weezer, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and Green Day in 5th grade. Dusty played drums to all these bands in headphones and began playing along with the radio to learn new styles and beats. In high school he began playing in bands and doubled as a bassist and guitarist in his teenage years. Learning drums early on helped Dusty quickly move to other instruments. After graduating high school, Dusty played jazz drums and upright bass in college and taught many central Texas high school drumlines as a freelance instructor. Dusty moved from his hometown to Austin, Texas to pursue a professional drumming career at age 21. After replying to a Craigslist ad placed by the drummer-seeking band 'Ember', Dusty got the gig and immediately began a tour of the US and Europe opening for bands like Theory of a Deadman, Hinder, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Stonesour, Blue October, and Black Stone Cherry. He also played on Ember's only nationally distributed album "Embrace", released in April 2010 - he can be seen in the music video for the track "Embrace" on YouTube. Post-Ember, Dusty spent time as a fill-in and session drummer and soon became one of the most in-demand drummers in Austin. During SXSW 2011, Dusty performed with Hollywood Records artist Alpha Rev, and very shortly after got the call to tour with country artist Brandon Rhyder. In 2012 Dusty was asked to tour with one of rock music's all time greats, Evans Blue on their headlining 'Graveyard Of Empires' tour. As 2012 drew to a close Dusty took to the road with Granger Smith and his YouTube sensation alter-ego, Earl Dibbles Jr. Already known for his entertaining and energetic shows, Dusty's playing style was the perfect compliment to Granger Smith's touring production. Dusty also played drums on Granger's "Dirt Road Driveway" album which released in the spring of 2013. Dusty has become one of the most well known up and coming drummers in the country and rock genres with a following of over 10,000 on Twitter. With over 20 years of percussion experience, he has become a solid and driving rhythmic force with every band he performs with and has become known for his energetic and animated stage performance. Dusty enjoys touring and recording all types of music with all types of artists, whether country, rock, pop, metal, jazz, R&B, or blues. His musical taste is as broad as his influences, which range from Vinnie Colaiuta and Buddy Rich, to Abe Cunningham and Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, to Chris Dave and Questlove. He loves being on the road and often travels to see - and hang with - other tours on his days off. He plays close to 200 shows a year and has had little down time since 2010 staying on the road enough to make a permanent address obsolete! It is obvious to anyone watching him on stage that Dusty loves what he does. We expect many great things from him in the years to come.

Dusty has also instructed WGI and PASIC indoor percussion ensembles since 2004. He is a huge fan and follower of Drum Corps International. He enjoys listening to all types of music and going to see live shows on his days off.

Dusty currently plays a Renown Maple Mod kit with 10 and 12" Rack Toms, 16" and 18" Floor Toms, 14"x6.5" USA Cast Aluminum Snare, 2 22"x20" Kick drums, and a 6x13 Mark Schulman signature snare as his side snare. He also is an avid user of electronics and includes many triggers and trigger pads in his kit. Videos explaining his setup in detail can be found on his YouTube channel.

Dusty also uses Sabian Cymbals and a custom rack from Gibraltar Hardware.

ADVICE TO ASPIRING MUSICIANS
Treat your playing as a quest to discover your own style. Don't play by the rules.
